AOC & Associates Group appointed as Co-Chairperson for the Steering & Organising Committees for the Dili International Youth Forum 2003 and a member of the Drafting Committee on Youth and ICT for Timor-Leste. (Oct 2003) AOC & Associates Group has been appointed by the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Timor-Leste to be the Co-Chairperson of the Dili International Youth Forum 2003 Steering and Organising committees and a member of the national drafting committee. The Steering & Organising Committees are responsible for organizing the 1st International Youth Forum on Youth and ICT 12-15 November 2003 in Dili, Timor-Leste. The Drafting Committee is responsible for producing the National Action Plan for Youth and ICT and to identify 6 new Youth and ICT capacity building projects for 2004-2006 in Timor-Leste. The Committees comprise of representatives from the National Youth Council, Ministry of Transport, Telecommunications and Post, Department of Labour and Solidarity, the academic and non-governmental sectors of Timor-Leste. <back to top> |

AOC & Associates Group Signs MOU with National Youth Council of Timor-Leste. (Oct 2003) AOC & Associates recently signed a MOU with the National Youth Council of Timor-Leste. AOC will be consultants to the Youth Council and assist with design and implementation of youth capacity development programmes for Timor-Leste in partnership with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, external donor agencies and the private sector. Focus areas for capacity building are: Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Workforce Development, Finance and Management, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Environment and Conservation, Event Management. AOC's first project with the National Youth Council will be the organization of the National Youth Forum 2003 in Dili, Timor-Leste. (see project write-up). <back to top> |

National Youth Forum on Youth and ICT, Dili Timor-Leste October 2003 (Oct

AOC & Associates will assist the National Youth Council and Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL) to organize the 1st National Youth Forum on "Formulating a National Action Plan and Identifying Projects for Youth and ICT in Timor-Leste". AOC role will be to design the project proposal and the forum's in agenda in partnership with the National Youth Council. Funding will be provided by the Government Republic de Democratica Timor-Leste. UNDP has indicated support for this project and will potentially be a co-funder with the Government. <back to top> |

AOC greets Timor Leste Youth Interns at KLIA (Sep 2003) Gregory Dennis, Director IT Project Management, greeted 13 Timor Leste Youth Interns who arrived at KLIA on 16 September 2003 to begin the ICT Youth Ambassadors Orientation and Training for Trainers Workshop in Malaysia. The Youth are part of a group of 44 ICT Youth Ambassadors participating in a holistic training for trainers programme to give them an understanding of Information Communication Technologies, international development and volunteerism. <back to top> |

AOC & Associates Group Meets with Ministry of Telecommunication and Post Timor Leste (Aug 2003) Group Managing Director, Eugene Raj Arokiasamy met with Minister Ovidio de Jesus Amaral of the Telecommunication and Post of Timor Leste to discuss the ministry's support and involvement in the Dili International Youth Forum on ICT and Youth 2003. The Ministry has agreed to be actively involved in drafting the National Action Plan for Youth and ICT. Eugene also discussed future ICT projects for the Government of Timor Leste. Mr.Ricardo da Costa Ribeiro, National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Timor Leste was also present at the meeting. <back to top> |

Meeting to develop Capacity Building programmes for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Timor Leste (Aug 2003) AOC and Associates Group met with the Secretary of State for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Virgilio Smith to discuss future capacity building programmes for the Ministry. AOC will design leadership, water conservation and management, good governance and citizenship, ICT and finance and management programmes for young professionals and youth service providers in Timor Leste. Ir. Miguel M.G. Manetelu is appointed Director for AOC & Associates Group in Timor Leste (Aug 2003) An Engineer by training, Miguel has also been active in the non-governmental development sector in Timor Leste the past 10 years. Miguel is currently the President of the National Youth Council of Timor Leste and also works for the President's Advisory Committee on Reconciliation. Miguel will head AOC's office in Timor Leste and be responsible for developing new projects with Government Ministries, the Private, Academic and Non-governmental sector. <back to top> AOC Timor-Leste, Director Miguel M.G. AOC & Associates sponsors Website Design Competition in Timor Leste (Aug 2003) AOC & Associates Group along with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Youth Council of Timor Leste will sponsor an annual website development competition beginning in 2004. The aim of this competition is to encourage the building of IT and web design skills in the country. AOC will present a notebook to the winner of the best designed website by a non-professional web designer. <back to top> International Youth Professional Foundation Asia Regional Summit on Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development 2004, Malaysia (Aug 2003) AOC & Associates Group in partnership with Junn Kay Resources Sdn. Bhd. Malaysia have begun negotiation with the International Young Professionals Foundation, based in Australia, to be lead partners in the organisation of the Asia Summit. The summit will be the International Young Professional Foundation first summit in Asia. <back to top> Project Progress Presentation to the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Global Knowledge Partnership (Aug 2003) Director Gregory Dennis and Group Managing Director, Eugene Raj Arokiasamy met with the representatives of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Global Knowledge Partnership, in initiative of the World Bank, to discuss project progress on the ICT Youth Capacity Building Project for Timor Leste 2003. The meeting also examined potential for future support for ICT projects in Timor Leste following the formulation of a National Action Plan for the country in early November 2003. <back to top>

AOC & Associates Group Welcomes Timor Leste Official Delegation AOC & Associates Group welcomed the Secretary of State for Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, the National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Timor Leste and Delegation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on the 21st June 2003. AOC's Group Managing Director, Eugene Raj Arokiasamy, Director, Gregory Dennis and Associate, Wong Ah Hon received the official delegation that represented Timor Leste at the "Stakeholders Gathering for the Timor Leste Youth ICT Capacity Building Project" held during INFOSOC 2003 in Malaysia. Malaysia-Timor Leste IT Education Link AOC & Associates Malaysia organised an informal meeting between the Dili Institute of Technology and Multimedia University of Malaysia. The meeting examined the potential of collaboration in designing IT Courses for the education sector in Timor Leste. The Dili Institute of Technology was represented by Dr. Dr Joao Cancio Da Costa Freitas and the Multimedia University of Malaysia was represented by Mrs.Halawati Abdul Jalil Safuan, Associate Dean, Faculty of Information Science & Technology. <back to top> AOC & Associates Group Presentation on Dili International Youth Forum(DIYF), Timor Leste 2003 Eugene Raj Arokiasamy, Group Managing Director and Project Director for the Timor Leste ICT Youth Capacity Building Project 2002-2003 made a presentation on the DIYF 2003 at the stakeholder gathering at INFOSOC 2003 in Malacca, Malaysia. The stakeholders gathering, designed by SIGMA MIMOS and AOC, aimed at informing participants about the project and also encouraging them to "buy-in" to the project. AOC-BDD Questionnaire to Youth Leaders and Service Providers AOC-BDD Computers, a subsidary of the AOC & Associates Group conducted a survey at the 3rd Melaka International Youth Dialogue(MIYD) from the 21st to 23 June 2003. More than 250 delegates from 50 countries were invited to participate in this survey through a questionnaire. The objectives of the survey were to identify youth who are willing to participate in the AOC-BDD program to provide recycled computers at grassroots in their own communities. It was found that more than 80% of the youth responded positively expressing eagerness in the program. A more detailed analysis of the survey will be published on this site later. The project aims to bridge the digital divide in developing countries by providing cheap recycled hardware particularly to youth in urban and rural centres. The project also aims to also facilitate the creation of a global network of social entrepreneurs and technopreneurs who develop and run economically viable computer recycling businesses.
